Prince Albert Town Festival

Prince Albert has a new festival!  The Prince Albert Festival will be held from 5 to 7 March and will be a celebration of all that our town and has to offer.  

There will be stalls, a merry-go-round, family sports, a variety concert, music and gospel choirs and a Fun Run with prizes galore. The highlight of the weekend will be a parade and performance by local children with the JazzArt Dance Theatre.  All the activities will take place on the Odendaal Sports Ground and offer something for everyone.  

Local crafters, cooks, organisations, clubs, schools, churches!  Run, don’t walk to reserve your stall at the Prince Albert Tourism Office!  Local residents pay R50 for a stall without electricity and R100 for a stall where electricity is provided.  For further information contact Edwin September, the Festival co-ordinator, on (023) 541 1320 or the Tourism Office on (023) 541 1366 or patourism@intekom.co.za 

The Festival is an initiative of the Prince Albert Local Municipality to raise funds for the Mayor’s Bursary Fund, set up to assist local youngsters learn skills and study further.

African Relish

Our cooking school aimed at the international and local traveller who is looking for something different. Tourists can participate in hands-on interactive cooking experiences, while learning about South African food and culture and the beautiful Karoo.

Wine Harvest  Pick, stomp, blend and drink! Join us to celebrate the new grape harvest as we get creative with the fruit of the vine.

Mosbolletjies & Moonshine  We explore some traditional recipes involving grapes, wine and brandy.

Kitchen Cowboys in the Karoo with Pete Goffe-Wood  One of South Africa ’s best known chefs, with a personality to match, is coming to town....

 

7 to 11 April 2010  

Escape to Culinary Karoo  Come and unwind with some creative cooking and cycling up the mighty Swartberg Pass and down into The Hell.

 

16 to 18 April 2010

Let's get Saucy!  Jacques Erasmus - Saucier extrodinaire and consultant chef to Cuvee Restaurant at Simonsig Wine Estate, will demystify the art of sauce making and demonstrate how this subtle art can transform ordinary food into fine dining.

23 to 25 April 2010  

Cooking in the Karoo with Ciro The Italian legend of Johannesburg cooks Karoo style!

Prince Albert Half Marathon  

May 2010

The 2008 and 2009 Half-marathons were most successful events. Join the Zwartberg Runners, Prince Albert's own Running Club, for the 2010 half-marathon.  The route takes participants into the spectacular Swartberg Pass!

Prince Albert Agricultural Show / Landbouskou

St John's Flower Festival

October 2010

The theme changes each year but the lovely little Victorian church revels in its beautiful Spring decoration. The church is open all day Saturday for visitors to view the flowers and spend some time listening to gentle music. At 10.00am on Sunday a Morning Prayer service is held. See the harmonium installed to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee! You can also take a walk in their labyrinth.

Remember to pop into the Museum to see the copy of His Royal Highness' collected speeches, sent to the village by Queen Victoria and inscribed by Her Majesty.

Prince Albert Harvest Festival

20 November 2010   

Join the people of Prince Albert as they celebrate their bountiful harvest.  The Harvest Festival will be a larger version of the weekly Saturday Morning Market with lots of fresh fruit (apricots, plums, nectarines, cherries, strawberries) in season and other local produce including jams, preserves, olives, olive oil, freshly baked bread and organically grown vegetables.

Leeu Gamka Nursery Open Day 

September 2010

Previous events have included a Bonzai demonstration by Dominee Org Swanepoel and a beadwork demonstration by Chrissie Esterhuyse of Krea Koup which included a pack of beads so guests could make their own creations.  Refreshments were served.
