BERGWATER FARM GUESTHOUSE

The spacious, renovated old farmhouse sleeps a total of 6 people. There are 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms in the main house (1 double bed / 2 single beds) and 1 bedroom/1 bathroom (shower only) in the flatlet (1 double bed). The flatlet is not rented out separately but can provide additional accommodation for larger groups at a cost of R440 per night.

AVIATOR GUESTHOUSE  

Situated 200m away from the Farm Guesthouse, the luxurious, vibrant pilots’ accommodation (available to non-aviators as well!) sleeps a total of 4 people.  There are 2 bedrooms (1 king bed / 2 single beds) /2 full bathrooms (showers & baths).

Caroluspoort Private Game Reserve is situated just  35 km east of Prince Albert.  Turn into Pastorie Street and follow the gravel road for 35 km - Caroluspoort is situated on your left.  The reserve comprises 11 000 hectares of Karoo plains, valleys and acacia lined riverbeds.  It is home to a wide variety of antelope including Gemsbok, Eland, Zebra, Black Wildebees, Red Hartebees, Springbok and Klipspringer; other smaller mammals; reptiles and birds.

Our farm lies 38 km outside Prince Albert on the R407 in the direction of Oudtshoorn.(we are exactly half way between Prince Albert and De Rust) 

The double storey house has two bedrooms (double upstairs and twin beds downstairs) There is one bathroom downstairs with a shower. The fully equipped kitchen has a stove, fridge and micro-wave oven, ideal for self-catering. There is a braai area outside.

It is only 42 km from the quaint little town of Prince Albert and 45 km from the majestic Swartberg Mountain Pass. The isolated wilderness area, known as "Die Hel" (Gamkaskloof) is a mere 59 km away. Meirings Poort, with its breathtaking scenery, is an hour's drive from the lodge and the world renowned Kango Caves only 98 km away. Due to its location Assendelft Lodge & Bush Camp is the ideal place to stay from where you can explore these famous sites and many other less known, but also most interesting!

The upmarket lodge is also the ideal overnight stop for long distance travellers. For those with more time at hand and want to be a bit closer to nature, you can stay at the bush camp and experience the starry heavens at night!

The lodge offers four double, air-conditioned bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and own entrance, whilst the bush camp has five luxury tented houses with en-suite facilities and a communal kitchen. Linen and towels are provided.

How to get there?  

From the South:

Take the N1 from Cape Town, pass Worcester, Touws River, Laingsburg and 86km from Laingsburg turn right at the Prince Albert turn off. The entrance to Assendelft is immediately on your right after you have crossed the railway line.  

From the North:

114km after you have passed Beaufort West you will find the turn off to Prince Albert to your left. The entrance to Assendelft is immediately on your right after you have crossed the railway line.

Oudekloof Guest House is situated on a working Export Fruit farm.  The homestead is surrounded by apricot and plum trees and is 6 km east of the Karoo town of Prince Albert with the Swartberg Mountains as the backdrop.  Tranquillity and peace are the order of the day.  Guests can explore the surroundings and view the birdlife on the 1600 ha. estate. 

 

The farm has a wide variety of animals including, Gemsbok, Kudu, Black Wildebeest, Springbok, Ostrich, Bontebok, Eland, Vervet monkey, Cape Porcupine, Mongoose, Baboon, Scaly Anteater, Lynx, Aardwolf, Bat-eared Fox, Black-backed jackal, Otter, Small-spotted Genet, Aardvark, Grey Duiker, Steenbok, Klipspringer.  Other smaller mammals include the critically endangered Riverine Rabbit with probably no more than 200 individuals left in the world and the rare insect Ant Lions.

 

The Swartberg Pass and the Cango Caves are in close proximity.

 

The homestead dates back to 1889 and still has the original Bolinder Wood Stove in working order, thick walls and the old fashioned attic.  A fully equipped kitchen, modern stove, fridge, toaster and braai facilities inside and outside are available (we do not supply wood). Rooms are as follows, 4 bedrooms with double beds, of which 1 bedroom is en-suite, 1 bedroom with 2 single beds.  Towels, linen and blankets are provided.

Grootwaterval Lodge (sleeps 8 persons) R250 pppn

If you are an outdoor enthusiast and love nature and solitude we would recommend the lodge – the perfect place for a group of friends or a family. The spacious house (7km from the farm house) has no electricity but a lot of oil lamps. In the main building is an open kitchen with everything you need, gas-fridge / freezer, gas-burner and an Aga stove. On cold winter nights you can enjoy the cozy inside fireplace in the living room.

The four bedrooms (two with double beds, two with single beds) are all en-suite. All linen and towels are provided. You enter from the generous laid out verandah with an outside fireplace. Quite often one can see Gemsbok, Kudus and Springboks passing by or at night you may be lucky to see the shy cape genet or an aardvark.

We offer bird watching, swimming in our natural spring water dam, mountain biking, tractor/-trailer rides. Explore the Karoo on a 25 km hiking trail or go on a night drive.
