Janet Dirksen

I worked as a Textile Designer for ten years, and for another twenty-two years as a Product Design Manager in the Textile Industry.  It has been a privilege to paint full time professionally under the tutelage of Pascale Chandler, a well known accomplished South African artist, and part time lecturer.

I love colour and light and I am constantly fascinated by the way that a certain light can radically change the character and impact of a subject, and make it something unique. Space and the poetry of form also intrigue me. Prince Albert and the Karoo 's own unique lighting and vast spaces I am constantly provided with infinite inspiration.

I paint from the heart and use variations of brushstroke to create vitality and life in my paintings. My style of painting is Impressionistic Expressionism, and oil painting is my primary tool. I enjoy the richness and depth of colour that can be achieved in this medium. My subject matter consists of the world directly around me and landscape.
