The Swartberg Pass is now undergoing maintenance and can be hazardous for cars with low clearance, the tarred road through Meiringspoort is a sensible alternative.

Coming to us via George?

LATEST INFORMATION DECEMBER 2011

One lane of traffic is now open on a stop/go basis at the rockfall location on the N12 and on the Outeniqua Pass between Oudtshoorn and George. Short delays can be expected.

The Montagu Pass is still closed to normal traffic and will only be open to the farmers of the region with an Eden Municipality account with a special permit, and for emergency vehicles.  No other vehicles will be allowed to make use of the Montagu Pass.

The other route open to motorists is to travel from George to Mossel Bay

then via the Robinson Pass to Oudtshoorn and then through de Rust

(or over the Swartberg Pass ) to Prince Albert.

A longer route but very scenic!

You can now reach Prince Albert Road on the N1 from Cape Town, Johannesburg or Durban by travelling on the Greyhound Bus Service -
